The Nerd Girl Invasion

The Nerd Girl Invasion

Kudos to my friend Nico who found this hilarious video by the SMBC Theater. I’ve been collecting articles, photos, memes and blog post about geek or nerd girls for a while now. Women who are into geekdom, especially if they are pretty or do sexy cosplay, are accused by some of being “fake geek girls” and of only pretending to like geekdom to get the attention of men.

Living in video games and living life like a video game

Living in video games and living life like a video game

I got hooked on World of Warcraft the first time I played it.

The game had been online for years when I first set foot in Azeroth in 2009. I had heard of the game of course, and was fascinated by the fact that it’s economy had expanded from game to Ebay. In China, some people worked in WOW “factories” where they played to create top-level characters that could later be sold to lazy players. I had also heard of some extreme cases in which people had gotten so addicted to it, that they stopped going to school or work for weeks or months.

Don’t Confuse Apples and Dragon Fruits

Greetings everyone!

I hope you had a brilliant weekend! Mine was pretty busy. On Saturday, I wrote a post about video games that I will be publishing on Wednesday. Make sure to have a look at it as I am starting a new series this week. It’s not that I’ve exhausted everything I wanted to share about anthropology and science-fiction (see posts 1, 2, 3 and 4), but I want to spend more time researching before I write on that topic again.

Trekkies and Trekkers

Trekkies and Trekkers

Hello Geekverse!

I posted about science-fiction and Star Trek this week, so it seemed fitting that I stick with this theme for my Friday recommendations. I selected a few videos about Star Trek for you. The first one is the documentary Trekkies. If you haven’t seen this one, I strongly recommend it! And although I’m not crazy about the intro song in the second movie, Trekkies 2, I like that it explores a more international fan base. Notice the Stargate fan?
