What I wish I could unlearn from Star Trek TNG / 1: Women are equal to men. In theory.

Since my blog’s creation last September, I have written about my (anthropological) perceptions of science-fiction on a few occasions.

In From Science-Fiction to Anthropology: there and back again, I described in detail the curiosity Star Trek and other sci-fi franchises have sparked in me for otherness and extreme alterity. This, I believe, is one of various elements that led me study anthropology, which in turn, brought me to be much more critical of the themes science-fiction explores.

This week’s photo challenge celebrates green since people in the northern hemisphere won’t be seeing much of it for a while. What an understatement: over here, snow will still be melting in May. But I don’t feel like respecting the spirit of the challenge (sorry). Instead, I feel like reflecting a little on the color itself and what it is associated with.

I posted about science-fiction and Star Trek this week, so it seemed fitting that I stick with this theme for my Friday recommendations. I selected a few videos about Star Trek for you. The first one is the documentary Trekkies. If you haven’t seen this one, I strongly recommend it! And although I’m not crazy about the intro song in the second movie, Trekkies 2, I like that it explores a more international fan base. Notice the Stargate fan?
